Commissioned by Tonic Design, we created the environmental graphics for Design Joburg 2019. These were printed and mounted to 3-dimensional structures at the event entrance and Kohler Theatre, complementing the carpets provided by Belgotex.
FROM SKETCH TO REALITY
Hand drawn sketches were translated into vector forms to fit the real-world 3-dimensional structures. The aim was to blend the structures seamlessly with their environment, therefore the graphic colour palette was selected to match the carpets. But, they also had to stand out, which allowed us to create a new, complementary palette.
Colour translation at a large scale design event needs to be checked, and checked again. To make sure all graphic colours display as intended, samples were carefully analysed before going into final print production.
